My Inspiration

My work begins with the places, colours and textures that catch my attention.

Living on the North Northumberland coast, I’m surrounded by constantly changing skies, weathered landscapes and the sea. I’m also drawn north to the Scottish Borders, Highlands and islands, where the dramatic landscape and shifting light provide endless inspiration.

I rarely set out to reproduce a place exactly. Instead, I work from memories, photographs, sketches and the feeling of being there. Colour, texture and atmosphere are often more important to me than precise detail.

My process is intuitive and experimental. I build up layers, make marks, scrape back, add and remove until the piece begins to find its own direction. That same approach runs through my paintings, textiles and jewellery — I love exploring materials and seeing what happens when they are combined in unexpected ways.

Whether I’m working with paint, fibre, copper, antique tin, sea glass or found and repurposed materials, each piece develops gradually through making and experimentation.
